And it is from Hercules that the city takes its name, <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-trawell-acc-color\">in 79 AD, it was destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius<\/mark>. Just for the record, Vesuvius is a volcano, still active today. A catastrophe, in short, that buried the city, breaking many lives, and that did not see the light again until 1709. Until <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-trawell-acc-color\">bring to light 'part' of the Herculaneum of yesteryear<\/mark> and which is the one being visited today. A visit that takes about 2-3 hours because of the small size of the excavations, making this site a must to visit. It was an incredible experience, doing <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-trawell-acc-color\">a grand dive into the past<\/mark>. Walking through the streets of Herculaneum feels like <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-trawell-acc-color\">experiencing a day in those days<\/mark>. (I will also give you some tips at the end of the article). But let's not get lost in chatter, I will show you some of the must-see points (and photos) of the excavations. I will make a small preamble: if you are on your own take at least an audio guide.
