Sorrento Coast

Sorrento Coast: ultimate guide of the best cities

It will not be easy to explain it in words, for this reason I will help me with my photos and even some videos. The only thing I can tell you is that here, in this place, Mother Nature has given us inside. The Sorrento Coast is one of the most beautiful places you can visit. In this article, I'll take you there, on the road.

Sorrento

I will let you enjoy the sea breeze, the warmth of the sun, the smell of limoncello . Of the one made with lemons from the Sorrento Coast. I'll let you experience an extreme feeling of freedom . A feeling that envelops me as soon as I set foot in Vico Equense. Get started and fasten your seat belts, I'll take you for a ride on the most beautiful coast in the World.

Sorrento and Amalfi Coast: differences

Small parenthesis before leaving: that is the difference between these two pearls. Sorrento and Amalfi Coast are different by territory and by city belonging. The Sorrento Coast starts from Vico Equense up to Punta Campanella . The Amalfi Coast, on the other hand, gathers all the following cities. Among the most famous are Positano, Amalfi, Furore, Maiori and Ravello.
In this tour, however, I will tell you about the Sorrento Coast. With it, all its cities that make this place truly magical. So I'm going to give you a city overview showing you really lovely places.

Sorrento Coast: from Vico Equense up to Punta Campanella

Sorrento Coast

As already mentioned before, Vico Equense is the city that gives life to the Sorrento Coast. You will notice it immediately as soon as you arrive on the coast. As soon as I set foot in Vico Equense I feel free . A feeling of freedom and happiness pervades me. Yes, the coast also does this, it generates an inexplicable feeling of relaxation . I don't know why, the sea will always be constant in your sight or the perfect temperature. Perhaps the breathtaking landscapes around every bend ... the fact is that it is! Seeing is believing!

  • Vico Equense
  • Meta di Sorrento
  • Piano di Sorrento
  • Sant’Agnello
  • Sorrento
  • Massa Lubrense

The top six of the cities that line the sea and that will leave you amazed. Needless to say, the term Sorrento Coast comes from Sorrento , a symbolic city. But we'll get there soon, don't worry.

Things to do in Vico Equense

First city of the wonderful Sorrento Coast, moreover also the most inhabited. In Vico Equense you can do and see many things, from excursions, events and obviously going to the sea! Needless to tell you to go to the city center, the beating heart of Vico Equense.

Vico Equense Italy

Vico Equense beaches

In addition to the public beach there are also secret places that are discovered over time. I discovered one thanks to a friend who will recommend you shortly.

Free beach Vico Equense

It is the main beach where free beaches and some private beaches alternate. In both cases a nice bathroom Vesuvius view will be there to keep you busy. From the Marina di Vico you can also admire the rock of Margherita.

Spiagge-Vico-Equense

Beach of Hotel Sporting in Vico Equense

Like all cities on the coast, Vico has its beaches far from prying eyes. They are often owned by hotels that overlook the sea. So these also include a private descent to the sea, such as the Hotel Sporting .
I discovered it thanks to a friend and it is, besides being very quiet, very beautiful. Most interestingly, the possibility of kayak excursions to sea caves.

Vico Equense hotels

I go there often now and you can also decide whether to stay in the part of the free beach or in the private one. However, both are part of the hotel. So even if you want to go to the free beach you have to pay for the descent (about 6 euros). Hyper recommended place!

Monte Faito: trekking in Vico Equense

As I have always already mentioned, Vico is a very interesting place for excursions. The Monte Faito , for example, is one of them. It is located a few km from Vico Equense (in height) but it is from Vico that you have to leave if you want to get there. It is part of the Monti Lattari chain and is one of the places not to be missed. Reason? wonderful view of the whole gulf of Naples and the coast. In reality there is also the alternative from Castellammare di Stabia which I will tell you later.
Getting to Monte Faito from Vico is very simple, also because you have "only" 3 options.

  • Bus (42 minutes)
  • Taxi (16 minutes)
  • By walk (2 hours and 40 minutes)

How to get to Monte Faito Village by bus or taxi

Monte Faito cable car

The other alternative to reach the Monte Faito Village is by cable car. This starts from Castellammare di Stabia which is the city before Vico Equense. The faito cable car is a beautiful experience, I honestly recommend it for the view. Gradually as you go up you will have a view over the whole Gulf of Naples with Vesuvius in the background.
I leave you attached the timetable of the cableway to Faito. And how to get to the Faito cableway by public transport

Monte Molare: the most beautiful view of Campania

In addition to Monte Faito, there is another mountain, also in the Lattari chain, which is worth a visit. On this, however, getting there is more complex. The Monte Molare (named for the shape of the tooth it assumes) is the highest peak of the Lattari mountains. The real name is Monte San Michele but I all know it under the name of Monte Molare

Mount Molare

I have been there several times and it is only after all these times that I was able to write an article about it. And it is precisely to this article on how to reach the top of Monte Molare which will redirect you. In the article you will find all the possible information to reach this absurd place. Check it out if you love adventure and trekking.

Vico Equense events: Festa a Vico

One of the biggest events in the food & beverage sector every year is held in this city. Created by the starred chef Gennaro Esposito , the event attracts thousands of people every year. Festa a Vico is held in June for 3 days and the city becomes an open-air kitchen. The greatest Italian (and non-Italian) exponents of food all meet here! An experience not to be missed in my opinion!

How to get to Vico Equense

I just have to tell you how to reach Vico Equense and I'll do it with a link: How to get to Vico Equense from your starting point by public transport.

Meta di Sorrento, Piano di Sorrento and Sant’Agnello

Of these 3 I will make a very quick mention, not because they are less important. Simply because they are from passage between Vico Equense and Sorrento . As you can also see from the names, except for the last, they are inherent in Sorrento. All 3 are beautiful and with a wonderful sea. Here too, as in Vico Equense, public and private beaches alternate. And even here, it will be hard to choose!

Sorrento Coast

Sorrento: the heart of Sorrento Coast

If it takes its name, it must mean something! Sorrento is Sorrento ! If you've never been there, close the internet. Or you force your partner to take you, or your parents or anyone. Sorrento is a state of mind, they shot films, wrote and sang songs. There are wonderful beaches, lovely streets, top notch restaurants and bars!
And the best thing, which I love most is that the center is PEDESTRIAN AREA ! The narrow streets of the center, Corso Italia (main street) and other areas (especially in summer). Nice because you live the city to the fullest, feel it, savor it, discover it.

Sorrento Coast

Piazza Tasso Sorrento: the heart of the city

If you have been to Sorrento and you have not been to Piazza Tasso you cannot say that you have been there. We assume that it is almost impossible not to go to Piazza Tasso. Also because if you want to go to the center, the beach or the port, you have to go there!
Piazza Tasso is a “status” . When I arrive here I have an obligatory pit stop at Bar Fauno with a view of Piazza Tasso. Which is not just a bar, it's literally a Bistrot, you can order anything!

Piazza-Tasso-Sorrento

Sorrento city centre

Narrow lanes, the smell of lemon in every corner, restaurants, bars, kiosks. The historic center of Sorrento is very nice, pedestrianized and can be seen in no too much time! So it also makes Sorrento a perfect day destination. In fact it is so, for those who live in the Neapolitan area, Sorrento is a classic one-day destination. Obviously for those coming from outside (the region) it is recommended to stay there at least a couple of nights.

Sorrento Coast

If, on the other hand, you want to do a nice tour of Sorrento and surroundings then maybe a week is not enough for you. Maybe not even 2! What I recommend is to take home a nice home made souvenir for sure. And for that you will find lots of shops in the center. Going to Sorrento and not bringing home its essence (something with lemon) is sacrilege!
In fact, I take this opportunity to recommend a shop specializing in typical products

Limonoro Sorrento

Just going into it and not buying anything will brighten your day. If you buy something, you will do the right thing. Inside you will find typical products of the Coast that the shop assistants kindly let you test.

Marina Grande Sorrento

Do you love villages? Do you love sea view villages? Those with a sea view with a beautiful sunset while eating fresh fish? Welcome to Marina Grande of Sorrento! A place that will leave you astonished. This small town can be easily reached on foot. I recommend it especially when the sun goes down, when it's less hot and it's time for a nice aperitif. Obviously a nice candlelit dinner is recommended.

Marina-Grande-Sorrento

Hey, let's stop for a second. Are you enjoying this tour of the coast? If yes, I want to tell you that you can make your life easier by booking one with a departure from Naples. Not only for Sorrento but also for the Amalfi Coast with a guide.

Marina Piccola Sorrento

Usually, if there is a Marina Grande, there is also a Marina Piccola ! The port of Sorrento corresponds to the port, the fulcrum for moving towards the islands. Furthermore, adjacent to Marina Piccola, there are also all the beaches. Among these, in addition to the usual beaches, there is also the public one.

Sorrento port: how to get to the islands

Sorrento port is certainly one of the most used places to move. Especially to reach the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida. Obviously the most popular is Capri , being exactly in front of Sorrento (about 20-30 minutes). For this reason I am attaching the link on: How to reach the different islands from Sorrento . I have already set up the search from Sorrento to Capri but if you want you can change destination!

If you want a suggestion I highly recommend this beautiful tour of Capri and Ancapri with guide.

Free beach Sorrento

Sorrento Coast

Mentioned before and I confirm. Especially to make you feel comfortable that if you go to Sorrento a dive without paying can be done. So this means that, in Sorrento, you don't necessarily have to spend a lot of money. Here in England people say: it's up to you ! For access the free beach you have 2 options. Or from the famous descent of the Villa of Sorrento (there is also the lift that takes you down for 1 euro). Or from the Porto of marina piccola. The thing most should make you opt for the Villa though, is its SUPER view! From the Villa of Sorrento there is a spectacular view of the Vesuvius of Naples . Maybe why not, before going down to the beach you refresh yourself in one of the bars located there.

Baths of the Queen Giovanna

A corner of Paradise created by nature: the Baths of the Queen Giovanna . In Italy we call this place: Bagni della Regina Giovanna. This place is fantastic, wild, of unique beauty. In fact it is one of the most popular attractions in Sorrento. I recommend you to go there and to do so you have two options: either in kayak (therefore by sea) or via path .

Bath of the Queen Giovanna

I'll throw it there, it's true that I'm a passionate sportsman, but the experience of passing through that rock hole is just WOW . Well, in Naples we use to say: fatt 30 fa 31. For us it's like saying: once you go there, do it well! The kayaks in Sorrento can be rented in any beach if you want to go on your own. Or you can book the kayak tour with specialized groups there in Sorrento!

How to get to Sorrento

Below I leave you the usual link on how to reach Sorrento by public transport.

Massa Lubrense

Last, but not least, a city that completes the Sorrento Coast. Massa Lubrense is located just after Sorrento a few kilometers and is very popular . In my opinion, among the many reasons, 2 stand out more than the others (in addition to the beaches, the historic center, etc.). They are the spectacular view of Capri which, on the road, will keep you company and Punta Campanella .

Gianluca-Acampora

Capri is there and it doesn't move from there. At every bend you find it in the background and there are beautiful places to stop. One that I highly recommend is Termini , part of Massa Lubrense. Here, exactly at Piazza Santa Croce , you can relax and enjoy the view. There is also a bar where you can refresh yourself!

Punta Campanella

Punta Campanella is the marine protected area that marks the end of the Sorrento Coast. Massa Lubrense is part of it and is special for this too. And it is from Termini di Massa Lubrense that you can reach one of the most beautiful places in Naples. We could also say Campania, perhaps even Italy. We do something, we abound and we directly say World.

Gianluca-Acampora-travel-guide

I know, maybe I'm biased, but looking at the photos maybe you will change your mind! From Punta Campanella I saw one of the best sunsets of my life. Peace, silence, Capri in the background and the sound of the sea…! What else? Getting there is also very simple and that's why I wrote an article on purpose. It is very detailed and will explain how to get to Punta Campanella in the shortest way! If you love sunsets and long walks, take a look!

Relais Blu

There is a place that I would like to recommend to you, although obviously Massa Lubrense is full of beautiful places. Relais Blu is an oasis, in all senses. I was there for the aperitif, then I went to the Rooftop bar. What can I say... without words, sunset time and background music! A moment of relaxation, even better if with the people you love !
In addition to the bar, the Relais Blu offers a (starred) restaurant service. Obviously always with a beautiful view of Capri. You can also stay overnight, I'll leave you the booking.com link to book a room at Relais Blu. Long story short, perfect for days of pure relaxation and why not, luxury!

How to get to Massa Lubrense

I also leave you the link to find out how to get to Massa Lubrense from your starting point. Always by public transport. Obviously, you can also get there by car to all the destinations recommended so far. In that case, it is useless to tell you that it will be enough to use Maps (Iphone) or Google Maps and enter the names of the places.

Best places to stay in Sorrento coast

I'll tell you right away that the city to take as a reference for accommodation is Sorrento, given its central location. I leave you below:

Sorrento Coast: conclusions

First of all, I hope that the article was useful to you. It was not easy to summarize what the Sorrento Coast is. Because everything I have described to you is just a small summary. The things to describe, see and do in each city would be many. What I did was just give you an overview. This way you can understand which could be one of the destinations that you may like the most. Or do them all on the road in a single day, that's up to you!
I just know that if you go to the Sorrento Coast, don't forget one thing, in fact I'll give you the option. Granita or lemon sorbet! Otherwise you cannot say that you have been to the Amalfi Coast. And to taste the limoncello! Don't forget!

P.S. don't forget to click here to follow on my instagram page the places I've been.

If you liked this article, and you have been thinking of Sorrento coast like next destination, you can share it with the various buttons you can find below (Facebook - Whatsapp, etc) with people you love. Don't keep them waiting
