Hikes in Amalfi Coast: Molare one of the Mounts Lattari

Before explaining how to get to the top of the mountain, I will give you a little excursus. The first thing to know is that the real name of the Molare is Mount San Michele . It is called by everyone Monte Molare for the tooth shape (molar) it assumes. The Molare is part of the Lattari Mountains which are nothing but the extension of the Picentini ones. They take their name from the goats and cows that graze there! Mount Molare is the one with the highest height with its 1444 meters .

But no more talk, let's find out how to get to the top of one of the places with the most beautiful view of Campania. The first thing I recommend is to try to go with someone who has already been there! The reason is very simple, getting to the Molar is not easy, it is tiring and you could get lost. And I can guarantee you that if you are not equipped and it starts to get dark it is better that you have a tent with you. Otherwise stay there !!!

At the top of Monte Molare, of course, you can reach it with a walking path.

But, of course, we must also start from a precise point . There are several but the more simple and faster is in this article. I reached the starting point of the path by car (by scooter is okay as well). I think it is the quickest and most rapid method, especially for the return, without constraints and timetables. At the end of the article I will also explain how to get to this place without a car.

The first thing to know is that the main destination is Vico Equense . If you didn't know it is the first city that gives life to the Sorrento Coast. Once in town, we have to follow the signs to the Monte Faito. Once there, you must continue to the Sanctuary of San Michele .

Here there is also a very large space for parking. The only you need to do is click on it and follow the instructions. When you find yourself in this place, once settled, you will begin your journey!

I leave you the list of a series of things to have with you before going up:

• 1,5 l of water
• Windproof jacket
• Trekking shoes are welcome. Do not walk if you have shoes with a smooth sole, it could be dangerous.
• Don't forget a spare
• Something to eat since at the top you will be tired and hungry.

Once you are sure that you have everything, you can start the journey! For Monte Molare there are actually 2 paths. What you have to follow is official of the CAI 350 . Especially if you want to go there the first time. The path, which takes the name of Angel's Path is well signposted.

The signs for Monte Molare are given both by arrow-shaped placards and by signs.

I don't know if you have ever been a scout, but they are the classic red and white signs that are made in the trees. The path is almost all uphill. When you arrive at the car park, you have to go past the source of the Scorchie and take a path that is initially downhill and then gradually ascends.

After about 35-40 minutes of walking you will arrive at a point where the path becomes more difficult. It is no coincidence that it is the last stretch and here too I recommend following some indications . First, get rid of everything in your hand. This stretch is not only very steep but also very slippery. (And here we go back to the initial suggestion to avoid smooth shoes or gymnastics). By keeping a satchel with you on your shoulders, balance your weight a little forward. Help yourself with your hands in an emergency or if you can't take steps longer than you can.

Once you reach the top you have to make another very small effort. 30 seconds that separate you from what it is, in my opinion one of the most beautiful views of: Naples, Campania, Italy and World ! Yes, gentlemen, this view is unmatched and fortunately it is difficult to achieve. Which means, whenever you go, you will (almost) never find anyone. It will become your harem, your Heaven , where silence will be your friend. The only thing keeping you companionship (apart from some friends) will be the total sense of freedom and immensity.

From Monte Molare you will have different views being on top. That of the Vesuvius that stands out majestically in the background is certainly the most suggestive. Then there is the one of the Amalfi Coast up to Capri . In addition, you can see part of the Cilento ! Well, as I said at the beginning, it seems to me a good compromise to get on it, right?

As for the return, all you have to do is follow the path backwards. First, however, enjoy the view for quite some time because climbing Monte Molare is not an everyday thing. And above all, take many beautiful photos to take with you. At the end of the article I will also list which lens to bring with you!

Sleep in a tent under the stars

This part of the story is my favorite. The first reason is because I will show you what it means to sleep in a tent at 1444 meters with one of the most beautiful views in the World. And the second is to know that you and other few people have those photos and you can count them on the fingers of one hand!

Let's start with a basic assumption: sleeping in a tent on Monte Molare at night is magical. The fact is that being able to do it is not feasible if you are not hyper-equipped. Where by hyper-equipped I mean to have:

• A tent (suitable for the number of people)
• Sleeping bag
• Warm clothing
• All you need to eat in the evening and breakfast
• Toothbrush
• Water (at least 2 liters)
• A torch (better yet a lamp)
• Powerbank just for safety
• A gas stove (small) if you would like to make yourself a nice hot herbal tea
• A lighter

All that being said, what I can tell you is that the view at sunset is spatial . It seems that the light never disappears so much that you are on top. And when the city lights start to turn on. The feeling is very strange because you feel a "silent sense of vitality" . On the one hand the chaos of the city, km and km away and on the other the sense of absolute peace!

At the (almost) starting point by public transport

Know that getting to the precise starting point with public transport is not possible. But what you can do is get as close as possible and then continue on foot. First I attach the link on how to get to Vico Equense from your starting point.

The last tip I give you about this wonderful experience is which lens to take you to. When we talk about landscape photography we are talking about wide angle lenses. Although I don't mind zooming in on the mountain spots for more detailed photos!
