Things to do in Procida in one day by bicycle

Let's start from the basic assumption: there are a lot of things to do in Procida in one day . Although smaller than Capri and Ischia, to visit all the island you need a little hand, indeed: 2 wheels. So this is the first piece of advice I give you: rent an (electric) bike . This will allow you to visit it quickly and to make (more or less) long stops. But now I'll explain everything calmly: the most beautiful spots, the beaches and how to get there. Are you ready? jamme jà!

Procida: italian capital of culture 2022

Procida was awarded as Italian capital of culture 2022 . For this reason alone it is worth a visit and I wanted to mention this thing as a Neapolitan. Furthermore, it is of extraordinary beauty and I will show it to you shortly.

Where is Procida in Italy?

If you were still wondering, Procida is an island in Campania, precisely from Naples. It is part, together with Ischia, Nisida and Vivara, of the archipelago of the Phlegraean islands .

Things to do in Procida: 1° step - renting an e-bike

As I have already told you, even if small, visiting all of Procida on foot is complicated in my opinion. More than complicated, it does not allow you to enjoy the places where you stop. That's why, once you get off the ferry (or hydrofoil), I recommend that you rent a bike. Where?

ebike rent Procida Italy

Exactly in front of the docking place you will find a shop that sells bikes, scooters and cars. It is called General Rental (here you can find the site for more info) . Here you will find Domenico who will be able to advise you on what to rent. Most importantly, Domenico will give you what is an excursus of the island and he will give you a map. A service that I appreciated and that clarified my ideas on the path to take.

How much is renting an e-bike in Procida?

  • FAT e-bike 25 euros (all day) with a range of 30 km (perfect for a day).
  • City e-bike 20 euros (all the day)
  • Bikes must be returned at 18:00
  • Helmet on request
  • Locker included
  • E-bikes have got a comfortable basket

I found the e-bike an incredible help to visit the island without getting too tired. Maybe it's why I've been getting older and my photographic equipment weighs.

Things to do in Procida: Terra Murata

The first (and in my opinion also the last) place to see here in Procida. I will explain the reason for the latter at the end . Terra Murata is an iconic place in Procida and it is the place you always see in photos on the internet. This panorama of colored houses of what is the Corricella leaves you speechless. Stunning place, believe me.

Corricella Procida

The Corricella is the oldest seaside village of Procida. Long story short, after Terra Murata the next stop is Corricella. Here you can take a walk and maybe stop for a coffee because you can find bars / restaurants there.

Things to do in Procida: Chiaiolella

Procida beaches

There are several beaches in Procida and some are really special. Many do not know that Procida has been a set of films over the years, I just mention a couple of them: Il Postino and Mr Ripley's talent .
Il Postino, if you are from Naples, you cannot fail to know him, with the huge Massimo Troisi . Mr Ripley's Talent has even seen the likes of Matt Damon and Jude Law .

Chiaiolella beach

It is the longest stretch of beach on the island and is part of the Chiaiolella area. Here you will find several beaches with services starting from the summer season.

Postino beach

One of the cult scenes of Troisi's film is shot here. The postino beach has been renamed with this name! The real name is Cala del Pozzo vecchio . In my opinion, visiting it is a must if you are a fan of the actor from San Giorgio a Cremano.

Chiaia beach

This beach can be found on the way back. Very large and spacious but above all with a nice view. From here, in fact, it is possible to have a overlooking of Procida and its skyline. Stop for a few minutes to admire its beauty.

Elsa Morante view point

It is the panoramic point overlooking Chiaia beach, a mandatory stop. In addition to Corricella, from here you can also see Punta dei Monaci and have a 180 ° panoramic view.

Procida at sunset

How to end the Procida tour? Well, on an island, I can only advise you to stay until the sunset and admire what nature can do. Where do I recommend you to watch the sunset? Where we started our journey. Why? Look at the photo below!
The sunset from Terra Murata for me can be considered Unesco Heritage . The sunset, together with the beauty of Corricella, creates a fairytale scenario.

I guard this photo jealously and I consider myself lucky to have taken it. (it will soon end up in my living room).
If you have to return the bikes at 6pm and it is a time of year when the sun sets late, don't worry. Terra Murata is an easy walk from General Rental, the sunset view is safe.

Where to eat in Procida

At the moment I cannot recommend any place on where to eat in Procida. Unfortunately, the day I visited it, I arrived late on the island (1:30 pm). This led me to visit it quickly with a quick packed lunch. Despite this, I was still recommended a place: Crescenzo . Seafront restaurant in Chiaiolella that I hope I can try as soon as possible.

Naples Procida by ferry: how to get there

There are 2 ports from you can reach Procida:

  • Beverello pier
  • Pozzuoli

Between the two, I recommend the Beverello pier because Pozzuoli is far away! Usually, the port of Pozzuoli is used by local people. Also know that Beverello is located near the Municipio stop . (central stop of the Metro in Piazza Municipio in Napoli). So it's to tell you that it is also better connected and that it's easily accessible.
As for the prices, they vary if you take the ferry or the hydrofoil. Below I leave you a link with prices and tickets purchase for the Napoli - Procida route. From the website, you can also buy tickets.

Conclusions

This Procida daily tour has ended, did you like it? For me, it is worth a visit (at least daily). Don't forget your swimsuit when you arrive, because if you travel by bike, a dip in the sea is a must. In one day I spent around 60 euros on tickets and bikes (with a packed lunch). It seems like a more than fair deal for a nice day trip. I hope to update the article soon by including the cost of a lunch/dinner. All I have to do is say goodbye and “see you next trip”!

If you want to visit another beautiful island, read this article about Capri. I wrote it with so much love making a daily itinerary.
