I remember when I took this photo in my glass sphere. One of the most beautiful I have been carrying with me for a few years now. Naples in the palm of a hand, I thought ... You have to know one thing: the 13 descents for the Neapolitans are a panoramic point. Let me explain better: in Naples there is this place (Belvedere di Sant Antonio) which is located in Posillipo . From here you can admire the classic and tireless skyline of Naples with the Vesuvius .
The nice thing is that for reach you have more ways (which I will explain later). One of these is the very famous 13 descents ("climbs" if you obviously have to reach it). The 13 descents are also so called, probably, because they are one way. Downhill, in fact, by car or scooter!
So the only way to go in the opposite direction is on foot . So much so that these 13 ramps are born under the desire of the viceroy Ramiro de Guzman duke of Medina. Precisely because at the top of the ramps you find the famous Sant'Antonio Sanctuary . And they were made just for the pilgrims who wanted to reach it.

How to get to Posillipo: 13 descents district
Maybe I didn't tell you before but the 13 descents are located in the Posillipo district! One of the most beautiful and rich areas of Naples known for its landscapes ! So now I will tell you all the solutions for reach the viewpoint.
Own vehicles (car, scooter or bike)
Just search on google maps "Belvedere Sant'Antonio a Posillipo". It will take you straight to your destination. You can safely park both the car and the scooter because there is a special area. If you live in the area (Naples) by bike it's not bad at all (I go there often). And the descent is the most beautiful part!
From the Mergellina underground to 13 descents
Naples metro line 2: Mergellina station
Small premise: there is no an exact metro stop for the 13 descents. So to get there you have to use the metro first and then bus (or cable railway )
The first thing to do is get to Mergellina : in the beautiful and ancient station. This is also a piece of history in service since February 4th 2007. Once you get here you can choose how to reach Posillipo. By cable railway or by bus.
Mergellina cable railway
It is from May 24, 1931 that the Mergellina cable railway carries passengers. A piece of Naples history, created to make the Posillipo district accessible.
The cable railway is located a few steps from the Chalet Ciro . Click here to find the precise position . The ticket for a single ride costs 1 euro. The 1.50 euro ticket is valid for cable railway, subway and bus ride for 90 minutes. To get to the viewpoint you just have to get off at the S. Antonio stop and it is the first of the 4
How to get posillipo by bus
Reaching 13 descents with the bus is the other alternative once you exit the metro. You can find the bus stop at Piazza Sannazaro which is 2 minutes walk from the station! Almost near Mergellina.

How to get to Posillipo from Mergellina by walk
Last but not least, as we would say in Naples “Fattell a per”. A colorful expression to say "walk there" which is not impossible but you have to walk a lot.
At least 30 minutes both from the Mergellina side, where the bus also passes and from Piazza Sannazaro. The latter is the arrival point of the famous 13 runs! So you just have to do them backward on foot; perhaps it is even more suggestive as real pilgrims !
