Hi people, in this article I take away some curiosities about the Tower Bridge in London . Some of the historical type and others of the technical type. In the end I will also tell you where to take some nice pictures of the most famous bridge in London. Ready? Let's go!

Tower Bridge history
It is in the 1876 that the call for the construction of Tower Bridge is launched. And will be Sir Horace Jones and Sir John Wolfe Barry, in the 1884 , to offer the chosen project. It took 8 years to build the bridge.
Five major contractors and an unparalleled work of 432 people every day. For the construction of the bridge two massive piers were used in the river bed. They are intended to support the construction and in addition 11 mile tons of steel have been used. The latter to provide the structure for the towers and walkways! Cornish granite was used to protect the steel structure. In addition to it also Portland stone to also give the bridge a more pleasant appearance.
What type of bridge is the Tower Bridge?
Tower Bridge is a drawbridge (or lift). This means that the bridge (takes place on average 3 times a day) rises. It is no coincidence that the Thames is the river that flows through London and is also one of the most important passage channels!
The Tower Bridge connects two areas: Tower Hill and Bermondsey , an area in Southwark. The first is very famous for the presence of the Tower of London . So much so that when you get to this area the 2 must-do things are to visit Tower Bridge and the Tower!

Tower of London: a few steps from Tower Bridge
Since we are there and it is a few steps from Tower Bridge we open a small parenthesis on this place. Visiting the Tower of London is a must. First of all, the position in which it is located is very strange. It stands out in a position that highlights the difference between the "old and new" city.
If you see it from the side of Tower Hill (where there is also the nearest subway and bus station) there will be a series of buildings on the background. Among these is the Sky Garden , a curved building and home to one of the places with the most beautiful view in London.
On the top floor there is an immense garden in a huge glass room with a bar in the center. The exterior is the most beautiful part because you can attend one of the most beautiful scenic spots .
How tall is Tower Bridge?
But let's go back to Tower Bridge. The bridge is long 800 feet (240 m) with two tall towers 213 feet (65 m) , built on piers. I don't think I already told you, but the bridge can be visited.
Tower Bridge, as you can see, holds many surprises. If you cross the bridge you will reach a point where you can access it. Climbed above you can visit the exhibitions it hosts during the year.

Between the two corridors you can visit there is a famous one that has the glass floor . It's "checazz" (in Neapolitan it means funny / pleasant) because you can see below. There are also box offices outside to make tickets!
I, however, recommend following this link. How to book and save on London attractions with the London Pass . I am of the opinion that if you go to London you go for several days. Unless you're passing through. In 2016 I purchased the London Pass (the link I mentioned above ) saving a lot. If you click on it you will find all the info on costs based on your stay.
Tower Bridge at night
Well, if we got to this paragraph it means that it is getting evening. And when evening comes, Tower Bridge becomes a magical place . Can you believe it if I tell you that only here in this area have I been there for almost 2 days? To take all these photos that you are seeing in different angles, I had to.
Crazy? Just love for what I do ! In Naples we would say: "Chi fraveca e sfraveca, nun perde maje tiempo" . It means that anyone who gets busy, anything, never wastes time.

Anyway, in the evening Tower Bridge becomes a magical place. I personally recommend going, also because in this area there are many clubs. Then find a lot of youth along the Thames, there are many benches to sit on and make friends. Or be with your better half.
While I was there shooting, in fact, a boy with my same passion approached me. We started chatting and taking some photos together exchanging opinions. P.S. Sony vs Canon .
Tower Bridge vs London Bridge: don't confuse them!
If photos of Tower Bridge appear on the internet, it is often mistaken for the London Bridge . The reason is simple, apart from disinformation. The fact that we are in London we tend to think that that famous bridge takes the name of the city.

It is not so. The London Bridge really exists but it's absolutely not this . And if you want to know it is the bridge that you find in Westminster and that takes you to where the Big Ben or to opposite side. In the photos, it is what often has the background British Parliament and Big Ben.
The positive thing, however, is that the two bridges are very close, about 1 km! So if you like walking, once you have visited one, you can move on to the other. Maybe walking along the Thames enjoying the view
Nearest station Tower Bridge: tube and bus
We are in the final stages and in this penultimate paragraph I will tell you how to get there. Getting near Tower Hill is possible by bus or tube (public transport).
In another article of mine I have already explained how, in my opinion, it is useful to move around London. Today our phones are at a level of crazy mobility. And that's why today I directly use maps (of iphone) or google maps for anyone who has android.

By selecting the place on maps, your mobile phone will let you choose the way to get there. (tube or bus) Once chosen, it will tell you the path by wire and by sign with lots of changes. So no app to download , you already have the app, it's called Maps or Google Maps.
Tower Bridge London: nearest tube station
The tube station closest to Tower Bridge is called Tower Hill . It is located exactly at the entrance to the Tower of London. So maybe it's better to visit the one first since you're there.
Nearest bus station
The nearest bus station , however, is always Tower Hill . Alternatively there is "London Bridge" which is located between London Bridge and Tower Bridge. I advise you to take the bus because it is more beautiful and from which you have an overview of the city.
Obviously I am talking about the famous bus to 2 floors of London, the red ones. I fell in love.
Tips on how to photograph Tower Bridge
Here we are, the last part before concluding our article. Here I give you straight on how to take nice pictures of Tower Bridge, especially at night.
Small introduction, if you want taking pictures at night you must have one thing: the tripod . With this you will avoid taking blurry photos. Also get a remote control , it is necessary not to touch the camera. As a result, always avoid an effect of shake .

You can find it at very little price on amazon. Just type self-timer remote control and the brand of camera you use. Apart from this for the moment I am not telling you anything. Why? Because for you I wrote a special article where I speak well of how take pictures at night .
