Which towns to visit in 2 days on the Amalfi Coast?

The Amalfi coast is teeming with beautiful towns, villages, and beaches one after the other. In two days, however, there are two (in my opinion) cities in which to stop. Two iconic cities, world-famous for their natural beauty: Amalfi and Positano.

2 day Amalfi coast itinerary: Positano

The gem of the Amalfi coast that the whole world envies us: Positano. It is my favorite city on the Amalfi coast and the 1st to visit. I'll explain why later. Its colors, the sea, the scent of lemons, the road you have to take to get there. Stroll through its streets among the shops of “the moda positano” and the smell of restaurants.

Get to the large beach and then observe it from low and admire its shapes. Positano is not a simple city, it is a "status". A city in which to get lost to admire and enjoy the italian “dolce vita ”. A slow life made of relaxation, pleasures, good food and breathtaking landscapes.

Free beach in Positano

In Positano you will find a part of free beach for spending your day in complete relax. Near the beach you will also find many bars and restaurants. Positano, in addition to be beautiful during the day, is also beautiful in the evening. It becomes magical at sunset when the lights start to turn on and the sun turns orange. This is one of the reasons why I recommend you stay overnight in Positano.

If you want to be more comfortable and 100% relaxed there is also a vast choice of beach clubs in which to spend the day. The beaches are all equipped to guarantee you a complete experience, consider them.

What to see near Positano

The beauty of the Amalfi coast is its fairytale landscape curve after curve. Just think that I (as a local) always go there on a scooter. The reason is that:

  • It is quicker to move from one place to another
  • You can stop without problems in the lay-bys along the coast with a super view
  • You can park it anywhere and without space problems. Just check whether parking is paid or not
  • It's super fun to explore the Amalfi Coast on two wheels
renting a scooter in amalfi coast

What I will do now is leave you the links to rent a scooter in Positano. You can rent the scooter from 1 to 7 days giving you maximum freedom to get around. I recommend, guided planespecially if you are not used to riding a scooter.

Map of Positano's best viewpoints

From the town of Positano itself, you can, in some places, have a beautiful view of it. There are points, however, that you can reach more easily by scooter because they are far away and out of town. Don't worry, I leave below a map with some iconic viewpoints. If you rent the scooter, you will not regret it, believe me.

How to get to Amalfi from Positano

There are two most efficient ways to travel from Positano to Amalfi:

Amalfi Coast in 2 days: Fjord of Furore

When you are traveling between Positano and Amalfi by scooter you have to stop here. Small premise: in this place there is only the possibility of parking scooters. This is why I keep telling you that it is the best solution for moving around the coast. The Fjord of Furore is a “must” to visit and why not… take a bath. If you leave Positano early you can spend some time in this fantastic place.

2 day Amalfi coast itinerary: Amalfi

Amalfi, one of the 4 Italian maritime republics. Another gem of the Amalfi coast from which it takes its name. Every time I arrive in Amalfi I am always amazed by one thing in particular: the Sant'Andrea's Cathedral. I would like to understand how they managed to build this large church nestled there. Truly... as soon as you arrive the first thing anyone thinks is: how is it possible that it is there?

Obviously, the Duomo is the main attraction of Amalfi. Once here, in addition to admiring it from the outside, go inside by climbing its 57 steps. You will be amazed by its beauty and grandeur. Amalfi can easily be visited in one day and remember that you are on holiday. Even in Amalfi you can relax on the beach and enjoy a bit of "dolce vita".

Free beach in Amalfi: marina grande

Even here in Amalfi you will find a part of a free beach where you can relax. If you decide to go there is the one in marina grande which is located in the city center.

Duoglio Amalfi Beach

Reachable on foot from the center of Amalfi in 25 minutes, is another alternative beach. By scooter it takes 5 minutes. To reach the beach you still have to go down 400 steps, good luck. Here you will also find a free part and a part equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas.

2 day Amalfi coast itinerary: Atrani

You can find the smallest village in Italy on the Amalfi coast: Atrani. Of timeless beauty and objectively another pearl of this coast. Atrani is located right next to Amalfi, in fact it can also be easily reached on foot. If you have a scooter, even better so you can relax riding on two wheels. I highly recommend you pay a visit to this small Italian village.

Ravello: the mountain gem of the Amalfi Coast

Just another 30 minutes from Amalfi you will find the beautiful Ravello. A gem nestled among the mountains of the coast. Ravello is worth a visit even if only for a few hours. In this small village you can visit two of the iconic villas of the Amalfi coast. Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone are two “must sees”. I leave you an article I wrote about Ravello for more details.

Is it better to stay in Amalfi or Positano?

Positano, for me, should be your reference city in this itinerary. In terms of location, it is the best for exploring part of the coast. In addition to this, it has a very lively nightlife with various places to party. Among these is the historic “music on the rocks” on the main beach. So, if you want to drink a bit more, you are safe because you don't have to drive.
