Where to stay on the Coast and save money

This is probably the first question to be answered for logistical and economic reasons. I am of the opinion that Positano is the best choice for the perfect location. It is located right in the middle of all the other destinations, ideal for out-of-town trips.

From Positano you could also rent a scooterwhich I will tell you about very shortly. Still, it remains quite an expensive destination. How about staying in Sorrento? Below you will find solutions for every budget.

Amalfi Coast Itinerary 5 Days: Positano

Positano is definitely one of the most “inn” destinations on the Amalfi Coast. Its beauty is unique and is now known throughout the world. Positano is my favorite town on the coast. The reason why I suggest it as a base is because Positano is logistically perfect. In addition to being the most active for evening entertainment.

Positano is a destination that can be discovered on foot through its streets. Throughout the city you will find many shops with the famous “moda positano”, bars and restaurants. Of course there is no shortage of beaches, in Positano there is the main beach with a free side and beach clubs. Ice cream and limoncello spritz should be the order of the day, don't you think?! I wrote a detailed article about Positano, take a look.

Furore: between Positano and Amalfi

Between Positano and Amalfi there is this extraordinary place that reminds me a bit of Northern Europe. It is the Furore fjord with its beach. I would recommend you stop at this beach because it is a very beautiful photo spot. If you to stop for a swim, even better. Just remember to start the day you go to Amalfi early because there are so many things to do. Near the Furore beach there is a bus stop, in case you travel by public transport.

Amalfi Coast Itinerary 5 Days: Amalfi

Not far from Positano is Amalfi, the city from which the coast takes its name. Amalfi can easily be visited in one day as it is very small. Piazza Duomo is where the city's social life is concentrated. It is also the square where the Duomo is located, at the top of all those steps. Some say that Amalfi makes the best ice cream on the coast, is it true? Try it to believe it. Amalfi also has a main beach with free areas and beach clubs.

What to see near Amalfi: The village of Atrani

Just 15 minutes walk from Amalfi you can visit the smallest village in Italy: Atrani. A true “made in Italy” gem that I recommend you see. In Atrani there is only one beach and the historic center to visit. It can be visited very quickly, also because the next stop is even more suggestive.

What to see near Amalfi: Ravello

Ravello is another destination to add to your bucket list when you're on the Amalfi Coast. The city of music is renowned for the festivals that hosts during the summer at Villa Rufolo. The latter, with Villa Cimbrone, is among the oldest and most famous villas on the coast.

Both can be visited throughout the year and admire their beauty. Ravello is only 30 minutes from Amalfi (even by bus). From Ravello, about which I wrote an article, you can enjoy an unparalleled view. Take a look.

Amalfi Coast Itinerary 5 Days: Maiori and Minori

You can dedicate another day of your itinerary to the cities of Maiori and Minori. They are located shortly after Atrani and can both be visited in a single day. Maiori is famous for its castle overlooking the sea: Mezzacapo Palace. In Maiori (which is larger) and Minori you could spend a nice relaxing day having a swim in the blue sea kissed by the sun.

Amalfi Coast Itinerary 5 Days: Sorrento

Even though Sorrento is not part of the Amalfi Coast, it is worth putting on the list. You read that right, Sorrento is part of the Sorrento peninsula, from which it takes its name. It is still a city worth visiting for its beauty and its beautiful beaches.

Sorrento can also be visited in one day without any problems, between beaches and the historic center. It is another city that I love because it is alive, not only in summer but all year round. I leave you an article that I wrote to discover Sorrento in one day.

Amalfi Coast Itinerary 5 Days: Capri

Last but not least the island of dreams: Capri. Another world-famous destination with spectacular natural beauties. I had the pleasure of living in Capri for 7 months and I fell in love with it. Capri can definitely be visited in a day and it's easily reached by sea. An island full of experiences to live among which you definitely cannot miss:

  • The Blue Grotto
  • Via Krupp
  • Marina Piccola
  • Augustus Gardens
  • La Piazzetta
