If you come to Sorrento, the call of the sea will be irresistible. Here are the two best spots to enjoy the crystal-clear waters of the peninsula:
Marina Piccola beach Sorrento
The best way to fall in love with this place is to see it from above first. Look out from the Villa Comunale and enjoy the view of the beaches below. You can walk down following the scenic path, or take the elevator comfortably (for a fee). The water is an open invitation to dive in! I recommend Leonelli’s Beach (prices and hours here) to spend a beautiful, carefree day. I've been going there since I was a child, and it is the largest and most complete in terms of services.
Queen Giovanna baths
If you are looking for an oasis of peace and prefer wilder corners, this is the place for you. It is accessed through a picturesque natural rock arch. You can reach it by sea, perhaps by renting a kayak (an experience I highly recommend). Alternatively, you can walk there in about 30 minutes from the center. Either way, the effort will be rewarded by a breathtaking location.
The beating heart of the City
After some relaxation on the beach, it's time to soak up the city atmosphere. The center of Sorrento is a hub of life and traditions.
Attractions in Sorrento Italy: Piazza Tasso
Don’t just call it a “square.” Piazza Tasso is an institution, the city’s true "elegant parlor." It’s a mandatory stop to reach other attractions. My advice? Sit at a table (Fauno Bar is my historic go-to), order a coffee or a "delizia al limone," and enjoy the hustle and bustle. Savor the moment, slowly. Right here, right now.
Corso Italia and Old Town
From Piazza Tasso, you immediately enter Corso Italia. The main shopping artery, perfect for a stroll with a good artisanal gelato in hand. Moving into the parallel narrow streets, you will enter the historic center. It is here that you can breathe in the true soul of Sorrento, among local craft shops and historic workshops.
Traveler's golden rule: Many little shops will show you how they prepare the famous limoncello. Many shops (practically all of them) will let you taste it. Go ahead and taste it—it's free, my friends, free.

Cloister of St Francesco
A stone's throw from the Villa Comunale, there is this enchanted corner that looks like something out of a fairy tale. Entrance is free, and its architecture, surrounded by greenery, is absolutely worth a visit. A natural photo set, often the setting for beautiful art exhibitions during the summer season.

Besides being the access point for Marina Piccola, its terrace offers one of the most iconic views ever: the Gulf of Naples dominated by the unmistakable silhouette of Mount Vesuvius. It’s impossible not to take a photo here.

My happy place. Heaven on earth. Leaving the Villa Comunale and continuing to the right, you arrive at this fishing village that I can never skip. Sitting at a table just an inch from the water makes you realize how wonderfully simple life can be. A chair, the scent of the sea, a ray of sunshine, and a drink: the recipe for happiness.

View from the Hotel Belair
While walking towards Bagni della Regina Giovanna, keep an eye on the road near Hotel Belair (you can take a look at its rooms here). From here, an incredible view of the entire city of Sorrento opens up.
The belvedere of Meta
If you have a car or scooter, head up to Meta di Sorrento. The panoramic view from there embraces not only the city but a long stretch of the coast. One of the most evocative spots ever.
The Flavours of Sorrento: What to Eat
A day in Sorrento is not complete without satisfying your palate. Here is what you absolutely must order:
- Gnocchi alla sorrentina (the great classic, spinning and inimitable)
- A good dish of seafood pasta
- Caprese fresh and genuine
- Delizia al limone to close on a sweet note
- The inevitable ritual of Limoncello at the end of the meal (remember the ban threat)
Gnocchi Osteria di Famiglia
I recommend this delicious little spot where gnocchi are the superstar. Family-run, this restaurant specializes in gnocchi (they make several different kinds). You will, of course, find alternatives on the menu. My advice is to try the typical local dish.
