Sorrento in One Day: Iter with a Local

Sorrento is very doable in one day and in this article I will show you what to see. Sorrento is the city from which the infamous Sorrento peninsula takes its name. Together with other cities on the coast, it is one of my favorites and a place for many carefree days. Sorrento is small and can be visited in a day, even with the opportunity to go to the beach. Ready to discover this pearl of southern Italy through my photos? Iamme ià.

Sorrento best beaches

I think that your intention, once in Sorrento, is also to stay on the beach. Maybe this can be a first part of how you could spend your day. Here are a couple of tips that I give you for taking a dip in the sea

Queen Giovanna baths

Marina Piccola beach Sorrento

From the municipal villa in Sorrento (which I will tell you about later) you can access a series of beaches. The nice thing about these beaches is that, before arriving there, you can admire them from above. Right from the terrace of the villa and from which you can reach the beaches. You can do it either on foot, via a path, or via the elevator that you can take from the villa itself. I am sure that the crystal clear water will convince you to take a dip in the sea.

Queen Giovanna baths

An oasis of peace and mental well-being here in Sorrento. A one-of-a-kind place you will fall in love with. If you love secluded beaches, Queen Giovanna baths is the place for you. Among the ways to reach this natural beauty is kayak, by sea.

A small natural arch in the rock along the coast will be your gateway. It can also be reached on foot from the town centre (about 30 minutes) through a pathway. Whatever the way to the beach, you will not regret it. Because whatever it is, it will be a unique experience. Remember when I told you about kayaking?

After spending part of your day at the beach, you can spend the rest of your time taking a tour of the city. As I already told you at the beginning of the article, Sorrento is small and the center can be visited in just a few hours. At the end of the article I will also leave you a map with all the places mentioned in the article.

One Day in Sorrento Italy: Piazza Tasso

The beating heart of the city where you are forced to pass to visit other attractions. Piazza Tasso in Sorrento is an institution, it is not a square, it is THE square. The center of Sorrento's social life where everyone stops at one of its bars. Among them, I recommend the Fauno Bar, my favorite. Sit down, flow with the essence of the life, sip a coffee, slowly.

Taste a "delizia with limone" made with Sorrento lemons. Eat slowly, sip your drink calmly. Live, and while you do so, here and now, observe how wonderful life is.

One Day in Sorrento Italy: Corso Italia

The city's shopping street attached to Piazza Tasso. Pop in for a wander around its shops and also for a delicious Italian ice cream.

One Day in Sorrento Italy: Historical centre

Parallel to Corso Italia is the historical center of Sorrento with its narrow streets. Here you will breathe the smell of local craftsmanship with its shops. Immerse yourself in the culture of the city and its traditions.

Traditions that have been passed down for generations like that of limoncello production. If you leave Sorrento without having tried limoncello I will never speak to you again and I will ban you from my articles. Some shops have laboratories where they also show you how they prepare it.

One Day in Sorrento Italy: Cloister of San Francesco

A very special corner of Sorrento that seems to have come out of a fairy tale. This cloister is located just outside the municipal villa and is accessed from the side. It is worth a visit (it's free) just to admire the beautiful architecture. Take the opportunity to take some photos. In the Cloister, during the year and especially in spring/summer, there are art exhibitions.

Municipal Villa of Sorrento

Already mentioned before telling you that it is your access to the beaches of Marina Piccola. What I did not tell you before, however, is that from the villa you will have another special view: that of Vesuvius. This is one of the most photographic spots in the city, impossible not to take a picture. Here too you will find bars and restaurants where you can stop to relax a bit.

One Day in Sorrento Italy: Marina Grande

My favorite place in Sorrento. You can reach it by exiting the Municipal Villa and continuing to the right. Marina Grande for me is Heaven on earth. My happy place when I come to Sorrento and I can never skip. Sitting at one of those tables a centimeter from the sea I feel serene.

In these types of places you realize how simple life is and how little we need to be happy. A chair, the sea, and a bit of sun (which never hurts) while we sip our favorite drink.

Panoramic viewpoints of Sorrento

I'll give you a couple of goodies if you love landscapes and want to admire Sorrento from two vantage points.

Panorama of Sorrento from Belair Hotel

This advantage point can be found on the way to the Queen Giovanna Baths. Take the Hotel Belair as a location reference. Along the way of this hotel you can admire the city of Sorrento in all its splendor.

Panorama of Sorrento seen from Meta

Meta di Sorrento is another place from which you can have a complete view not only of Sorrento but also of the coast. Spots among the most beautiful along the coast. Unlike the first place, this one is more complicated to reach.

I am talking in case you do not have your own vehicle and can only move on foot. If you are with your car/scooter then you can reach it easily.

What to see near Sorrento: Capri in a day

I wrote this article for you considering your daily availability. Also because it is what you searched on google. I do not know if you have the possibility to stay more days but if so I give you a couple of ideas on what to do near Sorrento.

Capri is in front of Sorrento just 15 minutes by hydrofoil, one of the most popular islands in the world. Capri is definitely the first alternative that I suggest in case of a prolonged stay. Capri can be visited in one day very calmly and without too much effort.

I wrote an article about this beautiful island, where I had the privilege of living for eight months. Capri in a day is my article where I show you its natural beauty.

What to see near Sorrento: Positano

A village that is certainly worth a visit, even if only for a day, for its natural beauty. Nestled and defended among the mountains, Positano is a real gem. The Amalfitan Coast is my favourite and can be reached from Sorrento in 2 ways. You can either reach it by bus or hydrofoil. This article about Positano that I wrote can help you with your day.
