The area around Termini Station is a paradise for low-cost travelers. This is where you'll find the highest density of modern hostels, B&Bs, and small family-run hotels with unbeatable prices. It’s the smartest choice if you’re arriving by train or if you have an early morning flight.
- What you’ll find nearby: You are just steps away from the majestic Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore and the Baths of Diocletian. With a 15-20 minute walk (or two metro stops), you’ll be standing right in front of the Colosseum. Plus, you’ll find the Mercato Centrale here, perfect for enjoying authentic food at affordable prices.
San Lorenzo: The young and authentic soul
Located between Termini and Tiburtina, San Lorenzo is Rome's university district. The atmosphere here is vibrant, less "touristy," and definitely more affordable. It’s the ideal area for those looking for simple accommodation and wanting to experience the real Roman nightlife. Pubs, pizza-by-the-slice shops, and cultural centers will be your daily bread.
- What you’ll find nearby: Besides the historic Sapienza University, you are very close to the Basilica of San Lorenzo fuori le Mura.
