The main attraction of the city of Pompeii is definitely the archaeological park. One of the most visited attractions in the world and worth visiting for a dip into the past. Visiting Pompeii took me back in time, immersing myself in its traditions and habits. Visiting the excavations is not easy because the area is very large.

Visiting Pompeii from Naples: the forum
The heart of Pompeii that was and where I also had fun taking lots of beautiful photos. This is one of the stops on the guided tour. The Pompeii forum was at the time the center of everything and all social life revolved around this place. A beautiful space with a colonnade in that unmistakable Roman style. A very unique place in Pompeii. It is said that one of the oldest professions in the world is prostitution. The term lupa in Latin means prostitute and the lupanari were real brothels. The Pompeians did not miss out on the pleasures of the flesh and in these spaces I saw absurd things.
At the entrance to the brothels, on the walls, there are Kama Sutra positions. It almost seems like a sort of catalogue of the positions accepted by the brothel. In the rooms, the names of the women are also written with a sort of review by the customers. The Kama Sutra representations have remained practically intact. A “hot” part of the tour that the guide definitely won’t let you skip.
Menandro's House
Perfect example of the domus of wealthy Pompeii. Menandro's House takes its name from the image of the Greek poet found there. Excavated between 1926 and 1932, it is among the most important on the site for its size and the works inside. It will be a stop on your tour.
House of the Faun
As will be House of the Faun , so called for the presence of a bronze statue of a dancing faun. I loved this house for the beautiful view it has of Vesuvius. I tried to imagine an afternoon spent outside in the garden with that view. Maybe reading a book with a nice hot herbal tea.

Another place that is part of the tour of Pompeii and that is certainly worth a visit. In this place you can see all the ingenuity of the past to create a place of pleasure. The baths of the time are not like those we know today, at least as a system. Indeed, those of today are based on the idea of the baths of the past, later improved. In fact, to heat the water the Pompeians had a particular method. They brought the water to a certain temperature thanks to furnaces or mobile braziers.

Ok, in this place you can have a really suggestive experience. The guide first explained to us the function of the Teatro Grande. Basically it was a place of recreation and where people went for leisure. The Theater is made in such a way, and here comes the suggestive part, that you can hear its own echo. The guide, with us sitting on the steps, explained things to us from the center and you could hear very well and clearly.
Maybe you wonder: so what? The shape and depth of the Theater allow for a strong acoustic to be given to the sound. After the explanation, we stood in the center, which I recommend you do, and we did a sound check. While I was speaking, I could hear the echo of what I was saying. I know, it may seem stupid, but I am surprised by much less, believe me.
Visiting Pompeii from Naples: large gymnasium
Another stop on the tour, or rather it will be the first of the visit entering from the main entrance. The gymnasium, as it is known to us today, was a space where physical activity was carried out. It was also a bit of a home of the gladiators, who trained for their fights
Best months to visit Pompeii
The best months in which to visit Pompeii are:
- April, May, October and November with cool days and the right temperatures
If you suffer from the heat, avoid July, August and early September. Visiting Pompeii under the scorching sun is not something I recommend.
Best times and days to visit Pompeii
Avoid peak times (due to the heat) by choosing early morning or late afternoon. For days I recommend weekdays instead of weekends.
