Durdle Door Jurassic Coast: where is it?

Durdle Door is a wonderful place that nature has created in the south of England . To be precise it is located in an area called Jurassic Coast .
The reason? The feeling of going back thousands of years and the continuous discovery of fossils.

Fossils discovered thanks to the continuous erosion of geological strata. Just for this it is worth a visit but let's move on. The Jurassic Coast goes from Exmouth (East Devon) to Studland Bay (county of Dorset). Durdle Door is located in Devonshire. With its beauty it contributes to making this area an Unesco Heritage .

Do I have to be honest? As soon as I arrived I thought of no longer staying in England but in my country, Italy. The sea air ... I was very missing ... a feeling of freedom, lightheartedness, happiness. For what? A thing as simple as it is immense, the sea.

Durdle Door walk: how to get there if you live in the UK

For those who live in England (in the countryside) visiting this place is a new emotion. For those who, like me, live in Italy, a 5-minute walk from the sea, it is a breath of pure oxygen. I think 10 minutes have passed before I opened my mouth as soon as I arrived.

It must be said that I had not seen the sea (of my beautiful Naples) for months now (about 6).
If you live in England the best way to reach it is by car . This is because by public transport, despite being very efficient, you would take longer. (Time varies from where you start). And trust me when I tell you that every minute taken from visiting this place is a wasted minute!

Durdle Door from London

If you are in England as a tourist reaching this place is not difficult. When I say tourists I take it for granted that you are visiting London . So the first thing I tell you is: are you guys from trip out ?! Go to Durdle Door and you won't regret it.

In England public transports work very well with only one BUT. Getting to some places (like this one) by public transport takes a little longer . More time simply implies more organization . Below I show you how to reach Durdle Door from London by car, train and bus.

London to Durdle Door by car, train or bus

Car (not recommended) unless you go with someone who can drive in the UK

• In England the direction of travel is opposite from your country (so avoid doing damage)
• The timing from London (2h and 30m) more or less doesn't change with the train. (The reason is that London is a congested maze full of traffic lights that slow you down)
• The only positive thing about the car would be not being subject to timetables and the cost . This allows you to experience this place without stress
• Average petrol cost 30-40 £ to be shared with friends if necessary.

Train

The train can be the the right compromise between timing and price! I mean...how many times can you ever go to Durdle Door? Here it is! S camp na vota sol (you only live once), let's live, let's explore!

• Average price (50-70 £ return) . The price varies from the booking times and the day of the week you choose
• The timing from London (2h and 40m) is more or less the same as with the car!

Bus

The bus in my opinion is the least suitable option ! The reason is obvious: the timing ! As cheap as it may be in my opinion it is absolutely not worth it.

• Average ticket price (£ 9-13 return) which is the cheapest option
• The timing from London (about 5h) make it the less suitable option. Take into account that it takes 10 hours to get there and back by bus… If you would like to leave at 8 in the morning, you would be there by 13:00. Not even the time to go down to the beach that you have to go up to leave.
• The bus in my opinion can be taken into consideration on one condition: sleep one night there . In that case, saving a lot with the price, you can sleep in a cottage the area is full of! Indeed I am attaching a link where you can have a look at some of them.

Durdle Door walk: path to beaches

Once there you can walk towards the beaches and the famous port! Durdle Door is in fact nothing more than a natural arch of a wonderful absolute. An arch that metaphorically represents a door to infinity: the ocean !

The path to the beaches takes about 10 minutes on foot! If you stop to make a few pictures it will take 15 and you will stop, I already know. There are two beaches! You can reach them once you arrive at a crossroads.

One of them is a path that takes you to the top of a hill where you can admire the whole coast! A feeling that I have honestly never experienced before! In Italy there are many places near the sea but not so special!

Durdle Door beach

The Durdle Door beach is certainly the most evocative one because it has the natural arch as a background. The scenario is literally Jurassic, I dare say primordial ! To get to the beach you have to go down some stairs via another small path.

Once there, take a nice long walk to stretch your legs! Savor the sense of freedom given by the sea and breathe the sea air as hard as you can, it's good for your lungs and soul!

Man o War beach

It is located exactly behind the natural arch (by sea). At the initial crossroads, however, you can reach it by going down to the left. Man o War beach is very beautiful because first of all the water is very clean.
Being a sort of bay , covered by the rocky part, is not subject to strong winds.

This almost looks like non-English , it feels like being in a Italian beach ! The thing I like most about the beach are the overhanging cliffs that drop sheer to it.
The alternation of all this lands with the sea and sand creates a unique scenario.

I was really happy, I have to be honest! The only thing, unless you are reckless, is impossible to take a bath . The water temperature is very low as it is still ocean water.

When I told you about the famous crossroads where you can get off at one of the beaches there was a 3rd option . This is a path that leads to the top of a cliff that literally goes over the sea.
It takes about 10 minutes to get there and it's all uphill!

Indeed, the slope is also high so I recommend wear very comfortable shoes . Once you get there, I recommend that you literally sit back and enjoy the view.
Let your soul become one with the surrounding landscape. Take a deep breath, close your eyes and let yourself be carried away by the sound of the sea.
