What to do in Siena for a day: Piazza del Campo
If there is an iconic place in Siena, it's definitely Piazza del Campo. The beating heart of the city of Siena. Besides being the center of Sienese social life, it is also home to a unique and rare event: Palio di Siena. A tradition with ancient origins (1200) that takes place twice a year (in July and August). Admire the city's architectural style while sipping a nice coffee.
Mangia Tower
Right in Piazza del Campo, you'll find Palazzo Pubblico with Mangia Tower. This famous tower offers an unparalleled view of Siena and its hills from its summit. There are 400 steps leading to the top; if you're strong enough, consider climbing it.
What to do in Siena for a day: the Cathedral
Another major attraction in Siena that's not to be missed is the Santa Maria Assunta's Cathedral. With its Romanesque-Gothic style (which I personally love), it's a must-see here in the city. Siena offers a single day ticket for all the attractions. I'll leave you the link shortly.
Piccolomini Library
Inside the Cathedral you'll also find this beautiful library frescoed by Pinturicchio. The scenes depict the life of Pius II, and are well worth seeing.
Siena Pass
Please take a moment to book the Siena Pass with its attractions. You can visit them all in one day, as I did, because they are close to each other. We're talking a few minutes' walk.
Cathedral Opera Museum
It was born as one of the first private museums in Italy. I recommend visiting it after visiting the Duomo because it's just a minute walkaway. The museum houses works from the Duomo itself. From the museum, climbing the stairs takes you to another must-see attraction.
What to do in Siena for a day: the view from the Facciatone
The Facciatone (which remained incomplete) was part of the New Duomo project. Unfortunately, work was interrupted by the Black Death and structural problems. What remains is a skeleton from whose top you can enjoy an extraordinary view. Observing Siena from above with all the hills that surround it is truly something. I highly recommend going there, even to take some nice photos.

It is located behind the Siena Cathedral, and it was the baptismal site of the Sienese for a long time. What certainly catches the eye is the bronze and marble Baptismal Font. It is located exactly in the center of the Baptistery.

A space discovered in 1999 and open to the public since 2003, it houses frescoes from the 13th century. The works are attributed to Siena's leading artists of that time. The scenes depicted in the frescoes are from the Old and New Testaments, and are well worth a visit.
