How should I organize a 7-day trip to visit Naples, Pompeii, Capri, and the Amalfi Coast? I know this is the question anyone would ask themselves before visiting these places, including you. Simple, very simple. Follow the advice of a travel blogger like me who was born and raised in Naples. Who loves the Amalfi Coast and goes there every week and lived in Capri for 7 months. Let's do this 7-day full immersion of “dolce vita”, ready? Iamme ià.

Two possible itineraries
In my personal opinion, you can approach this itinerary in two different ways. I will explain them to you and then it is up to you to decide based on convenience and economic availability.
Naples, Capri, and the Amalfi Coast in 7 Days: Economic Itinerary
I call it this way because of the city (Sorrento) that you will be using as your base of accommodation:
- Naples
- Pompeii (and excursion to Vesuvius)
- Sorrento (accommodation base)
- Positano
- Amalfi (Atrani and Ravello)
- Maiori and Minori
- Capri
In this first itinerary the idea is to get to Naples and enjoy this city for a day. The next day go to Pompeii (also combining the visit with Vesuvius). From Pompeii (where you could also stay a night) reach Sorrento by train. From Sorrento, then, you can start your dream trip on the coast.
Sorrento could be your base, cheaper than Positano and Amalfi. Every day from Sorrento you would have to move to reach the various destinations. That is the least of the problems believe me, because the coast is very well connected. I also give you a super tip on how to move around the coast and experience it like a local.
On a tight budget? Book in Sorrento
Naples, Capri, and the Amalfi Coast in 7 Days: Itinerary of Dreams
I call it that because the main difference is staying in Positano. And if that's not a dream... what is? If not in Positano, then in Praiano which is just 10 minutes away.
- Naples

- Return to Naples after the Pompeii/Vesuvius excursion
- Positano (from Naples by hydrofoil/private transfer)
- Amalfi (Atrani and Ravello)
- Maiori and Minori

In this itinerary the first positive thing would be to find yourself in a super central position. Positano, in fact, is surrounded by all the other cities on the coast. This makes it super attractive as a base for accommodation. More expensive yes, but you can still find many good accommodation offers.
From Positano you have the freedom to visit the other cities in the order you want. While from Sorrento you are a bit forced to follow a forced itinerary. I will leave you a map soon so you can better understand the distances.

One-day itinerary Naples
Two weeks would not be enough for Naples to discover its infinite beauty. I tell you this as a Neapolitan and as someone who explores and discovers Naples every single day. You can still do so much in one day. Consider that it would take a whole day just to visit the historic centre. And it is precisely from the historic centre of Naples that I leave you with an article I wrote that I recommend you read.
Archaeological Park of Pompeii + Vesuvius
A whole day could be spent visiting the caves of Pompeii and climbing Mount Vesuvius. I don't know if you have the energy to do both, but at least one of them is worth doing.
Doing both on the same day could be tiring, I admit. If I had to decide between the two, I would visit the excavations of Pompeii without a shadow of a doubt, and with a guide.
Sorrento one-day itinerary
Sorrento is my favourite town on the Sorrento peninsula. Sorrento is not part of the Amalfi coast and is the town from which the peninsula takes its name. It is a lively town, tending to be all year round, with peaks of course during spring/summer. Sorrento can be easily visited in a day and has beautiful beaches.
Some are also very hidden. As pretty is its historic centre that smells of lemons and where limoncellos are on every corner. I warn you, limoncello is addictive, especially the cream. Positano one-day itinerary
Positano...every time I go to this town I am enchanted and go into catalepsy. Positano is truly unique, I will never finish saying it and I write it in every one of my articles. I don't know what it is, whether its shape, the mountains behind it that protect it, its blue beaches. Positano bewitches, enraptures and seduces. A destination that can be visited in a day and a hypothetical base for a coastal tour.
staying in Positano would be perfect, also because from Positano you could fit a scooter. If you are familiar with carrying it, touring the coast on two wheels is pure poetry. Besides not being subject to timetables (of buses and hydrofoils), you can stop whenever you want. Along the Amalfi coast there are plenty of lay-bys where you can stop. Needless to say, the scenery is idyllic (I have learnt this word now).

Itinerary of Amalfi, Atrani and Ravello in a day
Three towns that could be visited on the same day, as they are close to each other. Amalfi is the town that gives the Amalfi coast its name. Beautiful, at a walking pace and with beaches to die for. It can be visited in a day and everything is concentrated in Piazza Duomo, where you will also find the church. You get there via a beautiful flight of steps.
Amalfi Coast in 7 Days: Atrani
A 15-minute walk from Amalfi you can reach Atrani, the smallest village in Italy. In Atrani there is only one beach and a beautiful, small historic centre to discover.
Amalfi Coast in 7 Days: Ravello
Less than 30 minutes from Amalfi, climbing up the mountains, you can also explore Ravello. It is also called the city of music for the festivals it hosts in summer at Villa Rufolo. Ravello can also be visited in just a few hours, if you don't have much time. Besides the beautiful Villa Rufolo, you can also visit Villa Cimbrone.
Amalfi Coast in 7 Days: Minori and Maiori
In order of arrival you will first find yourself in Minori, another small town on the coast. You can also skip it to head to Maiori, more spacious thanks to its waterfront. Maiori I would define it as a destination more for relaxation and walking. Among its iconic attractions is the Castello Mezzacapo, which is located overlooking the sea on a rocky spur. The Castle is also used as a hospitality facility with beautiful suites overlooking Maiori.
Itinerary of Capri in a day
And here we come to my favourite paragraph with my favourite destination. Seven months I lived on this beautiful island with which I fell in love. Capri is a worldwide destination that attracts people from every corner of the globe. Capri can easily be visited in a day as it is very concentrated.
There will be a lot of walking, that's for sure, but it will be worth it. Capri is easy to reach from either Sorrento or Positano or Amalfi by sea. There are many spots and places to visit in a day but the ones I recommend you don't miss are:

- Augustus Gardens
- Via Krupp
- Marina Piccola
- La Piazzetta
- Pizzolungo

What to eat in Naples and on the Coast
I list some iconic dishes to eat among Naples, Sorrento, and the Amalfi coast:
- Pasta and potatoes with provola cheese
- Pasta alla genovese
- Pizza
- Gnocchi alla sorrentina
- Caprese
- Baba with rum
- Sfogliatella
- Ice cream (daily)
The list would go on and on, better to stop.
Amalfi Coast in 7 Days: Conclusions
I hope I have told you everything you need to give you an idea of this itinerary. Seven days is really a lot to enjoy every destination. In an itinerary like this I wouldn't skip even one of the destinations I recommended. In terms of time you should be able to do it easily.
