I will tell you more: 4 days are perfect to explore Naples and its surroundings and experience its contrasts. Day 1
The only day for which I will give you advice will be the first for logistical reasons. We know very well that, between arrival and check-in, the first day is the one you have the least time available. For this reason, we will spend this first day for a walk in the center. There are many attractions here that we can visit calmly. The rest of the days we will dedicate to excursions out of town with an early wake-up call.
Accommodation in the Historic Centre to enjoy the real Naples
We will dedicate the first day to the true Naples. A walk through its alleys and its people that make Naples the beautiful city it is. In the center of Naples we will come across many attractions and monuments to visit.
Accommodation within walking distance of the Piazza Dante metro station
The 1st thing I will do is to leave you a very useful map for your stay in the centre of Naples. This will allow you to reach (on foot) the main attractions quickly.
Maschio Angioino
One of the most famous castles in Naples (near the port) and worth a visit even just from the outside. The Maschio Angioino can be a good starting point for this itinerary. It is among the oldest castles in Naples and was a royal seat and a cultural center. Inside, today, art exhibitions and events are frequently held.
Piazza Plebiscito
The iconic square of the Neapolitan city with its elegant colonnade and the city's social center. Speaking of social: stop at Gambrinus, one of the oldest literary cafés in Italy.
Spanish Neighbourhood
From Piazza Plebiscito, through Via Roma, you can reach the Spanish Neighbourhood. A folkloristic Neapolitan neighborhood known for its liveliness and Neapolitanness. Here you can fully experience the essence of Naples.
Clothes hanging out on the balcony, people greeting you to wish you a good day, and much more. After all, this is Naples, a super welcoming city that embraces everyone without distinction. In the Spanish neighborhood you can also find the very famous Maradona murals.
Naples Underground
What in my opinion is a MUST DO once in Naples. If you want to see a different Naples that will leave you speechless then this tour is to be put on the list. Naples Underground is difficult to describe, it is simply to be experienced.
San Gregorio Armeno
Known to us Neapolitans as the street of nativity scenes. San Gregorio Armeno (if you still have energy left in your body) is another MUSTO DO. An attraction that attracts, especially in December, tourists from all over the world. Here the nativity scene art is famous with many artisan workshops.
Umberto I Gallery
Another iconic place for us Neapolitans. A place of everyday life that must be seen also because you pass through it between an attraction to another. The gallery was built as a shopping center some time ago (between 1887 and 1890). Today it is full of shops, bars, and restaurants to admire its architecture.
Ovo Castle
It is one of my favorites because it is literally on the sea. You can leave Castel dell’Ovo for the last of the day, being on the seafront. It is a good idea to reach it on foot, walking a stone's throw from the sea.
If you admire it from a more secluded position the view is incredible. If you pass the castle (walking), you will have its view with Vesuvius in the background. For me, it is one of the most beautiful spots in Naples. From the terrace of the Castle you can have a view of the city's waterfront.
Regardless of what you see first, from now on I will tell you the experiences not to be missed. The order in which I will put them is simply a personal preference. I recommend you start them early to have the afternoon free. This way you can better explore Naples on your return. 4 Days in Naples Italy: Vesuvius and Pompeii ruins
Two attractions that can easily be visited in the same day. Vesuvius is one of the symbols of Naples and admiring Naples with its backdrop is definitely a must. But climbing Vesuvius and learning about its history is an unrepeatable experience. Due to its two past eruptions, the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum were razed to the ground. Cities that today host two world-famous archaeological sites. From Vesuvius you also have a splendid view of the city of Naples and the Sorrento coast.
Pompeii is one of the two cities razed to the ground by the eruption of Vesuvius (79AD) and which, to date, has been brought to light. The archaeological park of Pompeii is one of the most visited in the world and attracts tourists from all over. Visiting Pompeii is like taking a dive into the past. The bus that will take you there will be a bit like your time machine. On the site you will find works still intact from the old Pompeii, an unprecedented experience.
My advice (given their proximity) is to visit them in one day. The day tour lasts 7 hours and you would also have time to explore Naples on your return. I leave you the link to book both tours on the same day:
4 Days in Naples Italy: Capri, Procida or Ischia
Visiting one of the Neapolitan islands is a great idea for this 4-day itinerary. Capri and Procida are definitely easier to visit than Ischia. Capri and Procida are much smaller than Ischia, which requires more time to explore.

4 Days in Naples Italy: Sorrento and Amalfi Coast
Two more magical places, famous all over the world, difficult to skip once in Naples. Sorrento and Amalfi Coast are two places I am very attached to.
Whenever I feel down, I take my scooter and run to the coast. Luckily for you, from Naples, there are already organized tours to spend a day there.
I also leave you another alternative in case you don't want to spend the money for the tour and have more time. More than having more time I would say: don't be subject to "group" timetables. Naples is connected to Sorrento both by train and hydrofoil.
Once there, to reach Positano and Amalfi you have a couple of alternatives: bus or scooter. Renting a scooter is a fantastic alternative to enjoy the coast on two wheels. Enjoy the slow life curve after curve. Please, drive carefully!

What to eat in Naples
Naples has a very deep-rooted food culture and, whether it's street food or sitting down, eating its specialties is a MUST. What I recommend you eat once in Naples:
- Pizza - fried pizza - frittatina di pasta - potato croquettes
- Parmigiana
- Lasagna
- Pasta with potatoes and provolone cheese - Pasta and beans with mussels
- Casatiello (if you are in Naples at Easter time)
- Pasta alla genovese
- Babà - pastiera - sfogliatella - riccia - caprese
