Amalfi Coast in 4 Days: Dolce Vita Tour

Four days are more than enough to enjoy one of the most beautiful stretches of coast in the world. In this article, I have prepared an ad hoc itinerary that you can follow.

The Amalfi Coast is Unesco Heritage since 1997 and reading the article you will understand why. Not only by reading but also by admiring the photos I took of its enchanting places. I will leave many useful links for tours, accommodations, and experiences in the article. Ready? Iamme ià!

The top list of cities to visit in a four-day vacation on the coast with accommodation base in Positano. Accommodating in Positano is a purely logistical question due to its perfect location. Location that allows you to easily reach all the other cities. Enough chit-chat, I'll explain everything now.

Amalfi Coast in 4 Days: Positano

Positano is the diamond of the Amalfi Coast. Not because the other cities are less beautiful, but because Positano has an unprecedented charm. Close to the sea, surrounded and defended by the mountains with its pyramid shape. All characteristics that give this village a very Italian charm. A hidden gem ready to be explored among its streets with bright colors.

As I already told you, Positano (if I were you) I would use it as a base for your vacation. From Positano you can then reach Amalfi and Sorrento by scooter (renting it) or bus. And Capri by hydrofoil since there are daily trips from the port to the island. Positano can be visited on foot through its historic center to the beach.

A village made of narrow streets, local artisan shops, and lots of good food. Of course, there is no shortage of ice cream, don't worry, there is plenty for everyone. Positano is also the city on the coast with the best nightlife, having several clubs and cocktail bars. This is also the reason why I suggest it if you prefer spicier evenings.

How to get around the Amalfi Coast

The perfect way to get around the coast exists: the scooter. You can't understand the feeling of riding along the coast on two wheels if you haven't tried it. It's an experience to do (if you can and feel like it).

In addition to the fact that it makes you free from timetables being able to stop practically anywhere. Consider that along the entire coast there are many small rest areas. With the scooter (not bulky) you can stop wherever you want whenever you want.

The other two ways to get around the coast are bus and hydrofoil (by sea). These are two good alternatives if you don't feel like driving and want to relax.

Amalfi Coast in 4 Days: Amalfi

Amalfi is another unmissable destination once you find yourself on the Amalfi Coast. A city that can easily be visited in a day (and then return to Positano). There is one place, however, that I want to mention before talking about Amalfi: the Furore fjord. Between Positano and Amalfi there is this beach where you can also stop for a swim. The choice is yours, even if I would do it because in Amalfi there is only one beach in the center. In addition to the fact that the fjord is a particular spot not to be missed before leaving the coast.

Amalfi is famous for its Duomo. It is nestled on the steps of the tiny square in the center. I have always wondered (when I go there) how the heck they built such a beauty. Take advantage of the Italian climate to spend part of the day on the beach as well. Amalfi has its main beach right in the center.

If I can give you another heartfelt piece of advice, once in Amalfi, visit Atrani. This small village is the smallest in Italy and is located right after Amalfi. Atrani, even though it is very small, is a jewel of beauty. You can easily reach it on foot from Amalfi in less than fifteen minutes. Oh, I forgot, a tip for all the sweet tooths: in Amalfi they make delicious ice cream.

Ravello: the City of Music

Atrani is not the only town near Amalfi that is worth visiting. In fact, there is also the beautiful Ravello, famous for its festivals (and not only). Ravello is home to two of the Amalfi Coast's oldest and most famous villas. Villa Rufolo (where the festival takes place) and Villa Cimbrone are both open to visits. A heartfelt tip? Take a trip to Ravello because it is only 30 minutes from Amalfi and is worth visiting even for a few hours. In case I leave you a detailed article that I wrote about Ravello.

Amalfi Coast in 4 Days: Capri

You can't leave Italy without exploring Capri for a day. Especially considering that it's only a 40-minute hydrofoil ride from Positano.

Capri is an option that cannot be skipped and now I will explain, or rather show you why. Capri boasts some of the most beautiful natural beauties in the area and among these there are:

• Blue Grotto
• Villa Augustus
• Via krupp (with a superlative view)
• Marina piccola beach (reached through via krupp)
• Boat tour passing under the Faraglioni

How to reach Capri from Positano

If you want to reach and visit Capri from Positano, I recommend two alternative ways:

Amalfi Coast in 4 Days: Sorrento

Also Sorrento is a city that, in my opinion, you can't skip once you're here. I'll also make a technical clarification for the more curious. Sorrento is part of the Sorrento peninsula and it is the city from which the peninsula takes its name.

Sorrento, unlike the cities on the Amalfi Coast, is active all year round. This is another reason why I include it in the guide. Sorrento can be visited in one day and here too you can alternate between the beach and walking.

I'll tell you what are the places to visit and the activities not to be missed in Sorrento:

• Bathing in its crystal-clear waters
• Take a kayak tour to the Queen Giovanna Baths (secret beach)
• Visit Marina Grande and relax by the sea while having a drink
• Strolling through the historic centre and Piazza Tasso
• Visiting the Cloister of St Francesco

What to eat (and drink) on the Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is an extraordinary place not only in terms of landscape. The culinary tradition of this area is reflected in many dishes:

• The anchovies of Cetara (and its colatura)
• The ndunderi (similar to gnocchi)
• Fish and/or shellfish (perhaps combined with a nice pasta format)
• Delizia a limone
• Fresh lemonade (made strictly from coastal lemons)

How to get to Positano

The nearest airports to Positano are Naples and Salerno. You just need to check which one is more convenient for you from your starting point.

From either Naples or Salerno, you can then take a hydrofoil to Positano (fastest method).

Conclusions

This itinerary of pure “dolce vita” ends here, unfortunately. I know very well that, once you have visited the coast, you will never want to leave. It is the effect that it has on everyone, for its uncontaminated nature and slow life. Slow life that I love, which is why I am often on the coast every time I return to Naples from my travels.
