Is Mount Vesuvius worth visiting?
Do you like trekking? Do you like places with a nice view? Do you like history? Do you like having new experiences? Do you like wine? (Yes, you saw correctly, wine! The famous Lacrimi Christi del Vesuvio, typical local wine). So be prepared, after the climb, to drink some good local wine. If for all these answers you have at least 4 yes then book your ticket. I've been there at least a couple of times and it's always a thrill.
How long does it take to climb Mount Vesuvius?
It takes about 20-25 minutes of walking to reach the mouth of Vesuvius. For this reason I advise you, also for some technical reasons, to:
- Wear comfortable shoes
- Bring a bottle of water (even if you find it along the route and at the top of the bars)
- Check the weather before you go and book under the best conditions possible
- A windproof jacket, in case the day isn't the best
Best time to visit Vesuvius
From May to October avoiding July and August which they are too hot. The excursion to Vesuvius must however be a pleasure and not a stress. The best months are June and September for very mild and pleasant temperatures.
What is the best time of day to climb Vesuvius?
- Beginning of the day (I'd say by 11) try to avoid heat peaks. However, Naples is the city of the sun and from May the temperatures rise.
- End of the day (a couple of hours before it closes) for the same reason as above

Where to park your car on Vesuvius
If you go by your transport, you can go up to a certain point (1000 m). From this point on or take a shuttle (very low cost) to the entrance or on foot (the choice is yours). Below I leave you the point on maps where you can park. Parking is paid but very cheap.
