Knowing these areas like the back of my hand, I’ve prepared a practical guide to help you. For each destination, I’ve included an interactive map with accommodations and prices. Prices range from the lowest to the highest, so you can orient yourself according to your budget. To truly enjoy everything the area has to offer without rushing, you need (in my opinion) to stay a minimum number of nights. Sorrento: The most strategic choice for all budgets
Sorrento is not geographically located on the Amalfi Coast. Despite this, it is undoubtedly the best base for exploring it.
It offers solutions for literally every budget, from budget-friendly B&Bs to grand hotels, and it is unbeatable when it comes to logistics.
- Why choose it: It is the transportation hub. From here, daily tours depart for any destination (Capri, Pompeii, Vesuvius)
- Transportation: It is directly connected to Naples via the Circumvesuviana railway line. It offers an excellent port with hydrofoils to Capri, Positano, and Amalfi
- Ideal for: Families, budget-conscious travelers, and those who want to get around easily without renting a car
Hotel Belair with a sea view for special occasions
I suggest Hotel Belair for its beautiful view of Marina Grande and the entire coast. In addition, of course, to its excellent 5-star service. Take a look at the sea-view rooms at Hotel Belair.
Where to stay at the Amalfi Coast: Positano
Positano is the postcard of the Coast. Prices here are the highest in the area, but its central location for exploring the Amalfi Coast is unparalleled.
On a longer itinerary, from 5 to 7 days, staying here for two nights is the perfect choice.
- Why choose it: You are in the heart of the action. It is the perfect base to easily reach iconic spots like the Furore Fjord, the Li Galli archipelago, and nearby Amalfi
- Transportation: Well-connected by sea (hydrofoils to/from Sorrento and Amalfi) and by land (SITA buses or private transfers)
- Entertainment: In the evening, you won’t get bored in Positano, thanks to its variety of bars and clubs
- Ideal for: Couples, nightlife lovers, shopping enthusiasts, and photography fans
Amalfi: The historical centre (Perfect for a short stay)
Amalfi, which gives its name to the entire coast, is rich in history but very compact. I consider it more of a "hit and run" destination: visiting it is quick
Spending one night there is a great idea if you are doing a long tour of the coast and want to use it as a hub for the nearby towns
- Why choose it: It has an unparalleled historical charm and a very active port
- Transportation: It is the main terminus for SITA buses, making it extremely easy to travel to nearby towns or head back
- Ideal for: A one-night stay and for those who want to easily visit Atrani and Ravello
Where to stay at the Amalfi Coast: Atrani
If you want to stay in Amalfi but the prices seem prohibitive, Atrani is the solution. It is the smallest municipality in Italy and has maintained the atmosphere of an authentic fishing village, much less chaotic
- Why choose it: Accommodation prices are significantly lower, and the beaches are less crowded
- Transportation: Its strength is its location. It is literally a 15-minute walk from Amalfi. You can enjoy the peace of Atrani and walk to Amalfi to catch a ferry or a bus
- Ideal for: Smart travelers, those seeking tranquility, and mid-range budgets
Where to stay at the Amalfi Coast: Ravello
Suspended 365 meters above sea level, Ravello does not have direct access to the beach, but it offers the most spectacular villas and views in the world
Being a mountain community, it is a magical place, but it is not practical for a long stay
- Why choose it: For its romantic atmosphere, art, music, and to disconnect from the chaos of the coast
- Transportation: It can only be reached by land, mainly by bus or taxi starting from Amalfi
- Ideal for: Including it for a single night in a long itinerary, perhaps for an unforgettable romantic getaway
Capri: The blue island (Perfect for one night)
Capri is not located on the Amalfi Coast mainland, but it is an essential stop for anyone visiting our area. Just like with Ravello, I do not recommend it as a permanent base
Rather as an exceptional stopping point. In a complete 5 to 7-day itinerary, stopping to sleep here for one night is the perfect choice to crown your vacation
- Why choose it: Experiencing Capri in the evening, when the "day-trippers" depart with the last ferries, is a whole different story. You can enjoy the famous Piazzetta, the illuminated alleys, and an exclusive and peaceful atmosphere
- Transportation: It can only be reached by sea. Hydrofoil and ferry connections are very frequent and convenient, with continuous departures from Sorrento, Positano, and Amalfi
- Ideal for: Those who want to complete their itinerary with a touch of glamour, couples seeking romance, and anyone who wishes to experience the true soul of the island without the daytime crowds
Certified by me: Hotel La Minerva
I had the pleasure of staying at La Minerva, a classic Caprese villa converted into a hotel. Excellent service, from the warm welcome to the small details in the rooms. Located in the center of Capri, it is nonetheless far from the chaos and bustle.
A corner of peace and relaxation, especially the garden area with the pool. The terrace is used for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with an unreal view of the blue sea. The cuisine is excellent, having personally tried the dishes (I'll leave you some photos).
There is also the possibility of having lunch in the garden, near the pool. An enchanting place that I recommend for a special occasion.

Another villa, also in the beating heart of Capri, with a view that is nothing short of fantastic. Villa Silia is characterized by this beautiful sea-view terrace where you can enjoy breakfast. Some rooms have a sea view (but not all). Since it is not a hotel, there is no option for lunch or dinner at Villa Silia, but you have excellent alternatives just a stone's throw away.
Since it is located right in the center, you will find restaurants of all kinds and prices. I recommend it for the location and the wonderful view you can enjoy at breakfast. You can check the rooms of Villa Silia in Capri at this link.

The days you have at your disposal allow you to create a "tailor-made" itinerary. What does that mean? It means that the more days you have, the more you can create a personalized itinerary. This also allows you, in the case of a long stay, to stay in multiple places.
