Best Places New Year's Eve Europe: Naples
I can't help but start with my hometown, Naples, which becomes magical during the Christmas season. Naples is a city out of scale in my opinion, and I know, I'm biased, but damn it, it's stronger than me to say it. However, I think it's a city that has it all: art, history, culture, sea, sun, and good food.
What more could you want? Naples can be easily explored in just a few days, which is why it's perfect for New Year's Eve. If the weather is sunny, pack short-sleeved t-shirts. In Naples, the sun warms your skin, and your heart.
Best Places New Year's Eve Europe: Paris
On a European list, I'd include Paris every time for its disarming beauty. Famous for the Eiffel Tower and two of the most famous museums in the world, Paris is always a good idea for New Year's Eve. Beyond history, culture, and art, I love strolling around Paris, especially along the Seine. I love contemplating the Gothic architecture that characterizes this city and then sighing.
It's nice to sigh and think about how life is so beautiful and simpler than we want to complicate it. Paris can be easily visited in a few days, making it perfect for December. P.S. Don't leave Paris without having been to Disneyland, please.
Best Places New Year's Eve Europe: Venice
My favorite city in Italy, after Naples. Venice has a charm all its own and deserves a spot on my New Year's list. I had the pleasure and fortune of living in this city for two months and was completely captivated by it.
Strolling through the venetian streets and across the bridges is a unique experience. Spending the end of December and celebrating the New Year here doesn't seem like a bad idea at all.
Best Places New Year's Eve Europe: London
I've been in London many times when I lived in England for 4 years. It's a city to understand (at least if you experience it) with its endless opportunities and beauty. London is perfect for New Year's Eve, with a very particular custom. Every year in London, it's customary to celebrate New Year's Eve near the London Eye.
The world-famous Wheel becomes the perfect location to watch the fireworks. London can easily be explored in 3-4 days and is perfect for December.
Best Places New Year's Eve Europe: Rome
All roads lead to Rome, even to celebrate New Year's Eve. Rome could be another valid alternative as a destination for New Year's Eve. The Eternal City has so much to offer: art, culture, history, good food, and fun. Personally, it is in my top 3 favorite cities in Italy, after Naples and Venice.
One of the most important museums in the world is found in this city, and I'm talking about the Vatican Museum. Observing works of a certain caliber up close is quite an experience, I admit. Think about it.
Best Places New Year's Eve: Dubai
A fake (and constructed) city, but Dubai is a hit, and I'll tell you more: in Dubai, you have to look carefully. The real experiences are found in certain neighborhoods far from the skyscrapers. New Year's Eve also means fireworks, and Dubai has no shortage of them, as well as beautiful hotels, restaurants, and beaches.
Why do I recommend it? Because Dubai is a classic metropolis like London or New York (which many of us have visited) and is worth a visit. Then you'd spend New Year's Eve in short sleeves and splashing in the water. In Dubai itself, you can visit Al Fahidi, the historic district, and that's where it's worth going.
Best Places New Year's Eve Europe: Florence
Another lap, another Italian race, this time the lovely Florence. Beautiful, compact, and with so many things to do, see, and eat. Don't forget that in Italy one of the prerogatives is eating. Florence is home to another of my all-time favorite museums: the Uffizi.
There's art galore here, and it's in Florence that the world's best artists grew up (artistically). New Year's Eve in Florence? Why not, especially if you've never visited. It remains one of Italy's most beautiful cities.
Best Places New Year's Eve: Singapore
I stopped in Singapore for the first time in 2023 for 4 days on my way to Australia. What a city. Singapore is a mix of many things: countries intertwined culturally and culinary speaking. The streets are vibrant, and the city is split between modern and ancient.
A modern that doesn't prevail and an ancient one that tells many stories. Would I return? For sure. Would I spend New Year's Eve in Singapore? The answer is yes. Think about it.
Milan
If I had to choose an Italian city to party on New Year's Eve, the answer would definitely fall on Milan. Milan is a city with many facets, which you either love or hate. In addition to having a nightlife of a certain level, it has so much to offer artistically.
One of my favorite artists' works (Leonardo Da Vinci) is in Milan. Didn't you know? The painting of the Last Supper is located in the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Shall we talk about the beauty of the Duomo? Let's do this, put it on the list so you can think about it.
Sydney
I had to add an overseas destination, and the choice is Sydney. Why? Try celebrating New Year's Eve at Harbour Bridge and then let me know. Sydney is one of the most spectacular New Year's Eves in terms of pyrotechnic beauty.
At midnight, the bay transforms into a spectacle of lights and colors unlike any other in the world. I had the pleasure, fortune, and honor of living in Australia for two years. A wonderful country waiting to be discovered, where the New Year's Eve period is also summer. What are you waiting for? Pack your swimsuit!
