Naples in 3 days: where to start from?
Day 1
Personally, I would start a trip to Naples by visiting well first the city. The fact is that (you will see later) trips from Naples must be started early to enjoy them to the fullest. Naples you can easily visit in a day, immersed in its art and culture. A place where you will be welcomed by the love of the people of Naples which is one of a kind. Below I list all the main attractions that you could visit on foot.
Naples in 3 days: Maschio Angioino
One of the most famous castles in Naples and located in a very central area: Piazza Municipio. From here you could even continue your tour by foot (if you love walking). The Maschio Angioino frames what it is in the port area of Naples with its extreme elegance. It can also be visited inside where exhibitions of various kinds are often hosted.
Naples in 3 days: Galleria Umbero I
Not far from the Maschio Angioino there is Galleria Umberto I, opened as a shopping centre. It was built between 1887 and 1890 and today it is a meeting point for Neapolitans. Inside you will find shops of all kinds, from shopping to food and beverage.
Via Roma, Via Toledo and quartieri spagnoli
The everyday Naples, the real one, the one we like. Via Roma and Via Toledo follow one another with the other in the pedestrian center of Naples. You can get to via Roma from Galleria. Shopping and street food area.
Is Spanish Neighbourhood in Naples dangerous?
Quartieri spagnoli are beautiful and NOT dangerous! If you want to live a unique and different experience come forward and don't be afraid! This is the real Naples, the one that will make you fall in love. In the quartieri spagnoli you will also find a beautiful Maradona murals, idol of the city.
Naples in 3 days: Piazza Plebiscito
It is through Via Roma that you will arrive at Piazza Plebiscito , the symbolic square of Naples. Its beautiful colonnade is of unique elegance. Piazza Plebiscito for Neapolitans is not just a square, it is an everyday meeting place. A few steps from Piazza Municipio you will also find one of the oldest cafés in Italy: the Gambrinus. Stop by for a classic Neapolitan espresso and to admire the beauty of the place.
Naples in 3 days: Naples underground
Ok…this is one of the top attractions in my city and which you absolutely must do. But do you realize that under Naples there is another city? What do I mean? I mean that there is a Underground Naples made of tunnels and history. Get ready to go underground to discover something incredibly beautiful!
Naples in 3 days: Via Nazario Sauro e Via Partenope
The beginning, for me as a photographer, of Naples landscape, of that Naples that you see on the web or TV. These two streets, which follow one after the other, begin the Naples by the seafront. What should I tell you... well in the meantime, bring with you comfortable shoes because there will be a lot of walking. From here you will finally have the opportunity to fully see its majesty Vesuvius facing the sea.
Ovo castel and Borgo Marinari
Another very important castle in Naples which you will come across in Via Partenope. Castel dell'Ovo is famous for meeting up practically by the sea, it can also be visited inside. From the top of the castle you can admire the view of the city and its seafront.
Another reason why I recommend you stop by is Borgo Marinari. Former fishing village and where today you find many bars and restaurants. The area is very popular especially for the beautiful view of Vesuvius! If you have the chance, stop for lunch as you can eat very well everywhere.
Naples in 3 days: Mergellina
Neighborhood of Naples, always facing the sea, and which can be reached with a nice walk. From Mergellina you have one of the most beautiful views of Vesuvius given its position. And it is from Mergellina that you reach one of the most iconic places in Naples with its postcard view. Ready to go to Heaven?
Naples in 3 days: Belvedere di Sant Antonio (13 discese)
Ngopp e 13 sces. This is how we Neapolitans call this incredible place in dialect. Now, being a travel blogger, I am often away from Naples for my trips. Do you know what I do as soon as I return to Naples, besides having a nice espresso? I come here. I come to think, reflect, find inspiration. Naples is a city full of inspiration and every corner can be the right one. Mine is the view from the 13 descents. 95% of the photos you find of Naples on the web are from this incredible place. We, in Naples, say that it is a real postcard .
Naples in 3 days: San Gregorio Armeno
Definitely one of the most folkloristic places in the city for crib art . You should know that the nativity scene in Naples is a centuries-old tradition during the Christmas period. The nativity scene represents the scene of the nativity of Jesus and this street is a living attraction. At San Gregorio Armeno you will find master craftsmen and all their handmade works. Drop by to experience something typical.

Day 2
I would personally dedicate the next 2 days to trips out of city . Naples, of course, is incredibly beautiful. The Naples' fortune is also all that surrounds it, incredible places less than an hour from the city.
Naples in 3 days: trekking to Vesuvius
The Vesuvius, for us Neapolitans, is one of the symbols of this city. As I told you previously, 90% of the photos you find on the web of Naples have Vesuvius as their background. To leave Naples and not visit one of its symbols would honestly be a disaster. Put this excursion in your list and in one day you can combine Vesuvius and Pompeii. Vesuvius and the city of Pompeii (with its ruins) are connected by the eruption of 79 AD.
It was precisely this explosive eruption that tragically razed Pompeii to the ground. Over time, the Pompeii excavations have become a real open-air museum with all its finds. Over the years more and more tourists have decided to visit this attraction. A city destroyed by fire and ashes and which, to this day, is among the 20 most visited attractions in the world. This is why I recommend a combo visit of the two attractions. But don't worry, I'll leave all the ticket/tour booking links at the end.

Day 3
On the 3rd and last day (with a little more relaxation) I leave it up to you to choose what to do by giving you alternatives. Some beautiful out-of-city alternatives to make your trip to Naples unforgettable. The alternatives are between Capri, Ischia, or Procida and the Sorrento/Amalfi coast. Any place you choose will be like being in Paradise!
Naples in 3 days: Capri, Ischia or Procida
Capri
The most popular of the 3 islands, that of VIPs and its beautiful stacks emerging from the sea. Paradise on earth, or rather, at sea. I lived in Capri for 7 months and is a wonderful island with lots to do and see. I definitely recommend it more than the other two also because I know it much better. Places not to be missed once in Capri:
- Blue Grotto and the island by boat (I'll also leave you the link to book the boat tour) . The cost of the tour does not cover entry into the Blue Grotto. To enter the beautiful blue grotto you must select it in the options. Once done, there will be an additional price (described within the tour) to be paid on-site.
- La Piazzetta
- Via Krupp
- Augustus Gardens
- Pizzolungo and its trekking path by walk
- Natural arch
- Faraglioni rocks
- Anacapri with a sunset aperitif
Ischia
The largest of the 3 islands and also the most difficult to visit in one day (indeed almost impossible). If you decide to visit Ischia I recommend visiting part of it. Among the things you could visit, in my opinion, should not be missing:
- Thermal Parks: Ischia is very famous for its spas. I, personally, would spend part of the day in total relaxation.
- Ischia Ponte
- Aragonese Castle
- Sant Angelo
Procida
The smallest of the 3 and the easiest to visit and explore. Procida is a real wedding favor, small but with many beauties. If I can give you some advice, rent an electric bike to visit it comfortably. You will find several shops that rent them in front of the port. How to get to Capri, Ischia or Procida from Naples
I will make the job of searching for tickets (to check prices and times) very easy. I leave you a link that starts from Naples, you must enter one of the islands as your destination. 99% of the time the departure will be from Molo Beverello, which is located in the center of Naples (near Piazza Municipio). Easy to reach and also has a Metro stop called Municipio.
Naples in 3 days: Sorrento and Amalfi coast
If you don't like one of the islands as an option for day 3 then you can opt for the coastal. The Sorrento/Amalfi coast is an experience one in a kind. All the cities that follow one another along the coast are of incredible beauty and charm. I love the Sorrento and Amalfi coasts and I stop by as soon as I arrive in Naples. Below I also list the cities where it is definitely worth stopping along the coast:
- Sorrento (about which I wrote a detailed article)
- Positano
- Amalfi
These 3 cities are among the most beautiful along the coast and you could easily see them in a day. How? With a guided tour that leaves from Naples by bus that takes you from city to city. The tour, in my opinion, is more practical, especially if you don't have your transport. I take this opportunity to leave you the link to book the coastal tour from Naples. If you want to travel on your own you can get to Sorrento from Naples by train (link) .
From Sorrento you can then decide whether to move towards Positano or Amalfi by bus. Consider that Sorrento is the last city reachable by train. For this reason, reaching the other places is only possible by bus (by land). In my opinion, even just visiting the beautiful Sorrento and its beaches is more than fine. Then it's up to you to decide whether to venture further... even if... I were you, I wouldn't miss the opportunity to visit cities like Positano and Amalfi!

What to eat in Naples
Naples, in addition to being a city of art and culture, is also a cities with unique culinary specialities. I'll list the ones that I think you can't miss:
